A peek into the MGStrings Experience
CHRISTMAS MARKET
In 2023, Strings had the opportunity to perform at a Christmas Market!
GLOBAL STRINGS FEDERATION AND SCHOOL EXCHANGE
On 1st August 2023, as part of the Global Strings Federation (GSF) World Strings Day, MGS String Ensemble performed in the opening concert of the GSF Youth Festival Orchestral Festival at Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. The next day, the Ensemble hosted Pui Ching Middle School and Taipei Philharmonic Youth Ensemble. For the first time, the Ensemble experienced a combined orchestra of three schools, conducted by Professor Chan Tze Law.
This enlightening exchange opened a window for us to delve deeper into the lives of fellow students from Taipei and Hong Kong, shedding light on our distinct musical perspectives. What intrigued me the most was our remarkable ability in bridging language barriers and wholeheartedly embracing our differences, ultimately uniting through the medium of music to forge a shared enjoyment. Exploring the nuanced rhythms, harmonies and melodies of the piece, our unity extended beyond notes and chords. This experience was indeed fulfilling, and we eagerly anticipate enriching exchanges like this in the future.

MGAC EXCHANGE
In October 2019, MGStrings collaborated with ACS Philharmonic Orchestra and ACJC String Ensemble for the inaugural MGAC exchange. It was a fun-filled few days of rehearsals and getting to know our friends from our sibling schools. Afterward, we all gathered for a combined presentation. SYF PRESENTATION
Every other year, MGStrings is honoured to represent MGS at the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation. We are also proud recipients of consecutive Certificates of Distinctions each year we participate. Most recently, despite the challenges that came with COVID-19, MGStrings was still able to attain yet another Certificate of Distinction. Check out our performances down below!
CHRISTMAS CAROLLING VIRTUAL ENSEMBLE 2020
Despite having our performance opportunities in 2020 cancelled due to COVID-19, we were able to spread the holiday cheer through recorded videos together with MGChoir. It was certainly an interesting experience to create music in chamber groups but an enriching one nonetheless!
MASTERCLASSES
In MGStrings, we not only have our weekly rehearsals and bonding events, but also have many opportunities to learn from musical professionals and distinguished guests who lead the ensemble in masterclasses. Here are some photos from our latest masterclasses with re:SOUND violinist Pavlo Beznosiuk and soloist Matthea Goh. We also had a masteclass with Gabriel Lee in 2023.
